RECORDING AT HARMONIC FACTORY
UPDATES
When you record with Harmonic Factory, not only do you get access to some of the best recording equipment on the market, but you also get to work with a team of guys who really know what they’re doing. We went into Harmonic Factory prepared and excited to record our upcoming EP, but left with a sense of having been a part of something more. Hector, engineer of Harmonic Factory, really made us feel comfortable in the studio and encouraged us explore different ways of recording without letting us waste time. He was extremely knowledgeable with all of the gear, and was eager to answer any questions we had making us feel very hands on. We flew in our producer and long time friend Joey Papa (Ipkiss, Sonoma Beach Studios, Electric Sensei) who we had previously worked with on our first single “Dirt”. He has an incredible talent for understanding the right direction for our musical ideas. The manner in which they both work is fast, efficient, and passionate. Exactly what you want out of a production team.
The layout of Harmonic Factory is simple: vocal booth, live room, and control room, which makes for fast change overs and the ability to quickly listen back to a take so you can get right to recording while the vibe is fresh. We were able to talk over ideas on how our songs should be recorded (though we had previously mapped out a plan), and with Hector and Joey’s professional opinions, we were able to find the best ways to capture our sound. The quality of the recordings even with just a “quick mix” shocked us. The clarity of the sounds of our instruments was incredible. It made the whole process of being in the studio amazing. Past experiences have included the grueling process of trying to fix cables or wasting expensive time trying find a usable sound. Two things we were glad to skip this time round.
Hector and Joey looked to achieve a natural and organic recording approach with regard to room placement, mic set ups, and performance. This was just our experience, however, both of our production team members were well versed in different styles of recording with multiple years of experience between them. If you are looking for a great studio with a very professional setting and inclusive vibe, Harmonic Factory is the first place to look.
The band members each took one day to get their individual parts done, and everyone knocked out their session within that day with very little hiccups. The experience wasn’t without its issues from the band however. We laughed, we cried, we got pissed at each other and had to take breaks on occasion, but all of that passion went into every track making each performance something special. With the help of Hector and Joey, we were able to stay on track despite our excessive joking around because that’s just who we are as a band. All of us are hard workers, but we definitely love to get a laugh out of each other, which is part of what makes New Fang such a tight knit group.
